Dinan, Rita Ann

Rita Ann Dinan (nee Longergan) passed away on September 19, 2015 in the peace of her home surrounded by her family. Rita was born on November 8, 1933 in Yonkers, New York. Rita was devoted to her family, her community and her church. She had many friends whom she loved. After rearing her children, Rita worked for 20 years at Tappan Zee High School in the Main/Guidance offices. She was delighted by the students, teachers and her colleagues. She worked alongside her beloved husband, Daniel P. Dinan, who served this school for 50 years. They were a mighty team in all respects. Rita had talents; kept a beautiful home, refinished furniture, excelled at needlecraft, collected antiques and enjoyed finding treasures to adorn her home. Rita loved to laugh and especially enjoyed spending time with her children, their spouses, grandchildren, sisters, cousins, church friends and neighbors.

Rita is the daughter of James and Bridget Lonergan of Ardmore, Ireland and Yonkers, New York. Rita is predeceased by her parents, her loving husband and by her younger brother James – Brother Francis Lonergan. She is survived by her children Diane, Susan, David and Daniel, their spouses Richard, Dean, Joanne and Elke and her eight beloved grandchildren, Richard, Bridget, James, Christopher, Kyle, Daniel, Joseph and Jason. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Nimmo of Atlanta, Georgia and Margaret Connors of Allendale, New Jersey, and many other relatives all of whom she held in deep affection.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am on September 26, 2015 at St. Catharine’s Church, Blauvelt, New York. Wake services for viewing will be at Moritz Funeral Home on Thursday, September 24th from 6 to 8 and Friday September 25th from 4 to 8. In the eyes of her family Rita was blessed to live a full, faith filled life.
